Visit Borneo/Kalimantan
Borneo is surrounded by the South China Sea to the north and northwest, the Sulu Sea to the northeast, the Celebes Sea and the Makassar Strait to the east, and the Java Sea and Karimata Strait to the south. There are around 30 Dayak (major population of Borneo) sub-ethnic groups in Borneo, making it a hub of ethnic diversity. However, much culture, language, ethno music and traditional knowledge has yet to be documented by anthropologists.
Kalimantan occupies about 2/3rd territory of Borneo and is a fantastic place to explore. It is divided into four parts: South, West, East and Central Kalimantan. East Kalimantan is the second largest province in Indonesia and is heavily dependent upon earth resources activity such as oilfield exploration, natural gas, as well as coal and gold mining. Central Kalimantan comprises of thick jungles and represents the island's largest province. It consists of plenty of mountains, rivers and swamps.
South Kalimantan is divided into two separate regions by Meratus Mountains. The eastern part is mountainous with dense tropical rain forest, while the southern part is much flatter with large rivers meandering through the lowlands. West Kalimantan is also called as the "land of equator" because it's provincial capital; Pontianak is located on the equator. It has many swamps, rivers and lakes.
Borneo is a beautiful place to visit and many people go to Kalimantan to witness the Orangutan life traditional culture of Dayak tribe and Borneo Jungle by themselves, in a group number or single traveler. So visit Borneo and have a blast!
